Mr. Rubenstein’s comments on emerging markets were refreshing and his remark on the concept being somewhat “dated” was very much on point. I was specially struck by his conviction and passion on the role of PE in the marketplace and his role at the firm in particular.

It was interesting to know Mr Rubenstein’s perspective on emerging markets (which might not be emerging any more but leading). I still believe that if these emerging markets—particularly Brazil and India—do not solve their urbanization challenges, the influx of funds and/or expertise through PE is not going to be that effective. Governments have to take a bigger role in ensuring sustainable growth of urban centers of population.

While most of the observations made by Mr. Rubenstein are along expected lines, what is surprising is his perception of political risk in the US.
